Do you ever wear something and then have that thought, This is the same outfit I’d have worn at 15.? I have this kind of a lot. Looking at photos from college the other day, I know that a lot about my personal style and beauty regimen has changed. Thankfully! But denim cutoffs and a printed crop top? Yeah. Some things never change. Lately, if I’m not in a loose, flowy dress, I am in thrifted Levi’s like these from the Rose Bowl Flea. It’s summer, and I know it’s the perfect opportunity to wear some really beautiful outfits, but it’s. just. so. hot. Not to mention how lazy with style I am. If it’s not cozy, I’m not wearing it. But if I can handle denim on a hot day, I’ll go for these shorts.
Walking around Old Pasadena is one of my favorite things to do. But there are so many shops and cafes that I want to sample everything. I had planned to maybe pick up a bouquet of flowers the other Sunday, but the second I spotted this perfectly loopy, gorgeous, tillandsia xerographica, I shifted my weekly flower budget. This was an absolute steal too. Big air plants can get so expensive!
So one of my loftiest goals for the month may just be to keep this beauty alive. I’ve been to a couple nurseries and perused Etsy for the perfect one that wasn’t $40 without much luck, so I must, must have this for as long as possible. Only caveat, I’m a major succulent killer. This article is quite helpful in caring for them. I’ve heard so far a lot of conflicting info on the amount of water they need and whether they require direct or indirect sunlight. We get tons of sunlight in the apartment but it also makes the place intolerably warm so I will probably keep the blinds shut and bring this guy outside a lot. I’m a little nervous about making sure the root doesn’t retain too much water and rot, like I’ve read.
Why yes, people did walk by uncertainly while I posed with my air plant in Old Pasadena. Right now it’s sitting on my side table looking perfect. But I think I need a little stand for it to live in. Perhaps I’ll post some normal looking photos of it (ie not posed with a person but its stand) soon. Anyone with air plant care tips… Please share. But don’t tell me they’re impossible to kill. It ain’t true.
