When I started writing over at The Blog Market I fully intended to keep this blog more of a priority and have TBM be for the most part, a side project. That way, it stays more of a creative outlet for me which is important when a lot of what I do quickly turns from that to work that can become a little stressful at times. The Blog Market has grown a ton over the past few months and we really want to keep the momentum going! I love sharing the things I’ve learned from owning a business or freelancing or working in social media so it makes sense that TBM has become more of a commitment for me this summer. Jennifer feels pretty similarly, and it’s so great because she has lots to share too. These posts in particular have been a few of my faves this summer.
Favorite handmade gift ideas on Brika
Though I’ve bought everything from handmade beauty products to wall art to supplies on Etsy, I haven’t ventured too far into other handmade marketplaces online. Brika always pops up in my searches though. There are many of the same sellers there as on Etsy, though Brika is quite a lot more exclusive, with an application process and a special spot just for highlighting makers. Each designer gets essentially an about page about their shop, rather than a profile. I haven’t bought anything from this site yet, even though it’s been around for long enough that I probably should’ve by now. Lately, I’ve found more and more shops to bookmark for my style or space or to give as gifts.

Each of these 9 shops have a little somethin’ of note. I’ve noticed a lot of candles and soaps on Brika and I never get enough of relaxing / refreshing scents and a little pampering so you can see I keep returning to these types of makers. Doesn’t Woodlot take the best photos? I also recently purchased one of those dishes from Redraven Studios at a boutique here in Los Angeles, to use for little misc things in my studio. I am so in love with the Redraven tabletop that I couldn’t help but get a little slice of the collection. Are you a shopper or maker on Brika?
Peonies & dahlias & inspiring weekend links
My most recent farmers market bouquet is made up of two favorites: dahlias + peonies. Dahlias are difficult to care for and my air plants are hardly thriving so I think I will wait until I know a little more about floral before I go with them again, but aren’t they beautiful? I decided along with #flowerfriday I’d share some links like last week, that inspired and intrigued over the last few days.

Levi’s, Air Plants, & Pasadena
Do you ever wear something and then have that thought, This is the same outfit I’d have worn at 15.? I have this kind of a lot. Looking at photos from college the other day, I know that a lot about my personal style and beauty regimen has changed. Thankfully! But denim cutoffs and a printed crop top? Yeah. Some things never change. Lately, if I’m not in a loose, flowy dress, I am in thrifted Levi’s like these from the Rose Bowl Flea. It’s summer, and I know it’s the perfect opportunity to wear some really beautiful outfits, but it’s. just. so. hot. Not to mention how lazy with style I am. If it’s not cozy, I’m not wearing it. But if I can handle denim on a hot day, I’ll go for these shorts. [Read more…] about Levi’s, Air Plants, & Pasadena
Watermelon mojitos for summer
Mojitos have always been my favorite summer cocktail. You can control how much simple syrup you add and there aren’t a lot of sugars to worry about. For me sugary cocktails = a major headache. I stayed away from mojitos for awhile because both times I had them I got sick… I figured it had to be either rum or mint that didn’t agree with me. But I’ve had them both separately. So I am forced to conclude that I must have had just too many or something else on those days. Phew! I can officially drink mojitos. I am also utterly obsessed with watermelon. Always have been. Even back in my watermelon seed spitting contest days (is that indeed an activity or am I making this memory up?). Watermelon + mojitos are my favorite combo yet. I looked up a few recipes but ultimately decided to wing it and it was soso good. It’s probably not in my best interest how good these are. Hello, pool and mojito party. (Really, a whole party around mojitos? I must.) See below for a quasi-recipe. [Read more…] about Watermelon mojitos for summer
Bohemian bedroom decor ideas
I think I mentioned before that there was quite a lull in my search for the perfect decor + furniture for our “new” apartment that we moved into in April. Finally, I am back on the hunt. I’ve just always had unfinished spaces–mostly because I move so much it hardly seemed worth it–and I want to finally create a dwelling I love to sit, sleep, read, work, and create in. We don’t entertain out of town guests too much and that’s been one of the reasons I want to work on our space too… I don’t like the idea of the friends/family I already don’t see often enough not being able to check out my home! They certainly don’t mind but I do. Anyway, with a little break from the living room, I’m finally putting a little energy toward the bedroom.

I want it to be very relaxed, warm, and cozy, but also tranquil and fresh. Sure, there will be laundry thrown about on rushed mornings and clutter on the dresser, but I don’t want to take away from it being the ultimate place to rest and rewind. Of course I had to go ahead and paint an accent wall purple. I love it but hadn’t considered that I can’t really pair it with purple decor. For this roundup let’s say I don’t have to avoid purple completely–in reality I’ll likely go with gray or aqua duvet, pinks, and perhaps a few cozy neutrals. Click the links above for my bohemian bedroom picks! Candles, geodes, and stone washed linen – I’m determined to have a bit of each.
