found: Nallik jewelry from Germany

April 6, 2015 by Angela

Hope you’re having a happy Monday. I’m breaking from a heap of work ever so briefly to pop in and share this jewelry line I’m newly enamored with. I don’t remember how I happened upon Nallik, but I bookmarked them a couple months ago and have been meaning to blog about my finds. These necklaces are the work of Jean Balke, who is based in Germany but travels to different countries in search of the best stones for these pieces. The rigid stones and the soft encasement of the brushed brass make a beautiful pair when brought together.

I think I’m in love with just about every piece in the organic line. Check out more from Nallik here.

Has anyone discovered any new designers lately? I am in a wishlist-making mood.

Home Decor Trend: Handmade Kilim Pillows

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

There was a time I was not into prints and patterns and woven-ness as much as I am now. It was basically floral print (occasionally of the old-lady tapestry variety) or bust. But after a temporary blogging gig for an interior designer who was very well traveled and into Moroccan prints and colors, I began to do my research. Kilim textiles, often Turkish or Moroccan, are my new obsession. I tend to go for patterns a bit more muted with feminine colors, but the brighter ones (like the vintage Turkish rug-turned cushion from Sister Golden or the bright striped bohemian version found on Etsy, also cut from old kilim that somehow came up while searching pastel) catch my eye every now and then, and would make perf statement pieces. #4 might have to come with me to the new apartment. With moving in a couple weeks and turning twenty five this Friday, I’ve been justifying slightly too many presents for myself lately. After a few investments I think I’ll be content resume my thrift-only type of shopping trips.

In other news, Jennifer and I are having a springy giveaway over on The Blog Market today! Head to the site for details and to enter.

Spring Style + Melrose Flea

March 29, 2015 by Angela

Spring Style / if found, make.

Remember when I used to blog? March has been a little crazier than expected. First, I’ve worn heels twice this month which is generally a once a year type of activity for me (yes, activity is the correct term here). Then, I caught a super bad cold. Being a freelancer, I was able to neglect work during that week, and being a freelancer, I had to make it all up the next week. We also got accepted for a new apartment, so we’re moving to a new neighborhood soon. Basically, lots of ups and downs. So the other weekend I dusted myself off, spent a good twenty minutes brushing out all the knots in my hair (the above photo is a very rare knot-less time for me, you should see it now!), and headed to the flea market, farmers market, and Alfred Coffee on Melrose. What fun.

Discovered this little stall at the farmers market… If only I hadn’t just stopped off at Lowe’s 🙁

Took home a bunch of roses and a couple pretty necklaces.

How’s your spring so far?

Moodboard: pink + bronze

March 17, 2015 by Angela

moodboard: pink + bronze / color board

I thought I would start a little moodboard series here on the blog. Lately I’ve been designing for my home, photoshoots, projects, DIYs, websites, and basically everything under the sun that could require a color scheme. I haven’t experimented too much with creating color palettes but looking around my house, I decided to start with what I had to come up with inspiration. It became a little scavenger hunt for color in a place I don’t normally look. What do you think? Stay tuned for more!

Pretty packaging: moon juice

pretty product packaging: moon juice

I’ve had a love for product photography since I joined Etsy, and since then it’s grown to an appreciation for anything having to do with showing off that beautiful/ useful/ delicious/ innovative product: design, packaging, photography, the way you show gratitude toward your customers, etc. Recently I came across Moon Juice, who is based in Los Angeles but I’d never heard of, and headed right to their website to see what they were all about. Turns out they have a couple different lines of product, along with a few other brands they sell via their site, all packaged perfectly…

Moon Juice / Moon Juice Tonic & Dusts / Hiba Wood Golda Spray from Studio Cue / Everyw’air Sprays from Agnes Baddoo

Cool packaging, huh? Why even buy a product if you can’t display it the way you could those tonic + dusts or sprays? The best. I think this shift we’re fiiiinally seeing toward supporting small biz and local shops is breeding some pretty creative ideas. When you’re already a creative person, you’ll have a vision for your branding (even if you outsource it to another creative pro) and design and how you promote your product. Do you agree? Know of a brand with packaging pretty enough to share? Have one of your own? Let me know and we’ll highlight it here on ifm!

found: Hancock Park, Los Angeles

Thrifted dress & Moorea Seal backpack / iffoundmake.com

The first photos I take with a new camera are always a little less frame-worthy, a little ordinary, like trying to see the same things I always see from a fresh perspective. Details. I always want to capture the details. On this joyous occasion… Our first evening walk with the new camera in hand… We wandered LA’s Hancock Park for a bit (a historic, wealthy neighborhood lined with oversized houses and a few too many green lawns). Then we stumbled into Larchmont (because, Salt & Straw) and continued our walk in the other direction.

Last week, LA’s March felt like Seattle’s May. Crisp and cool with hints of spring. I realized no matter how different the weather here is than basically anywhere else, those hints at new life aren’t lost.

What have you been up to? Any adventures lately?
