my move into conscious clothing has been difficult the last year. my clothes have always come from thrift shops, but thrifting in LA isn’t like the PNW (you have to really commit to going far outside the city to snag deals without the markups), and after taking a pause from selling on Etsy, i’ve been less inspired by vintage, just because i don’t see it everyday and it’s quite difficult to find the most wearable pieces. as i move toward slow fashion, i still want to be creative with my style. i think being conscious and sustainable must always be balanced with creative expression and my biggest thing right now is that it IS possible, and hey, maybe even on a budget too. Around the city, DTLA
An unsuspecting Verve coffee shop underneath a curious vintage sign.
it’s the nature of social media. once you start taking photos on your phone where ever you go, whether for a client or just that perfect instagram, you start to do it, assignment or not. i used to take my camera everywhere, and little adventures like all the happenings a couple weekends ago reminded me just why. there’s always more to see, even on the streets you roam time and time again. #yearonpaper | 04: positivity
last week i wanted to experiment with my camera a bit and not wanting my notebooks and office goodies to be the subject of yet another impromptu photo shoot that i’d later lay on a splattering of blog and social media posts as if they were stock photos, i opted to do the same things with my plants. charity + i went to the DTLA flower market right after this little shoot. afterward, i had bouquets mixed in with these succulents and my little, partially munched on fern that was almost kitty lunch (thankfully not toxic). then came valentine’s day, when kevin stopped by the farmers market and picked out a couple spring bouquets that replaced all my dying market bits. i know having flowers is sometimes silly. if they’re not in the ground they certainly don’t last long, even shorter when i’m tending to them. but they sure do brighten up the place. we’ll call these little ones the survivors. even the fern. i’ve had them all month now (big feat, right?) and they persevere. and even though market flowers don’t stay in my life long, having a brighter, lighter space with them makes all the difference. Edith Coco flowers
I haven’t done a Floral Friday post in quite some time, but I have definitely been making it a point to add more colorful florals and pretty plants in my apartment lately. Even though I have been known to kill even the most independent of plants—succulents and air plants—I’ll never stop trying.
Last month I got a lovely bouquet from a new floral delivery service here in Los Angeles, Edith Coco, thanks to the best gift giver ever, Crista Funk. It seems like everything has a delivery or subscription service these days, but I can’t think of anything better than having flowers hand picked and lovingly delivered to your doorstep! They really do hand deliver too, in a big metal bucket that you leave outside your door.

my san francisco at christmas
over the holidays, we went on my favorite road trip ever, up through big sur to san francisco. we’re going to SF again in the spring and i cannot wait. like i’ve written about here and here, san francisco is my city. it’s the one. i love my home, seattle. but SF? a whole nother level. anyway, i never blogged the facades i captured on my iphone over a month ago, and as you can imagine, there were many. not to mention gorgeous shops to peruse and lots of coffee to be had.
