Skirts and sweaters from E. Magnolia Vintage

August 27, 2012 by Angela

We have some adorable new things in the shop just in time for September. We have sweaters that are comfy but light – perfect for transitioning into crisp fall days!
I finally put this plaid circle skirt in my favorite pastel palette up in the shop. How cute would this be with tights and maybe a cropped cardigan? I know the weather is a long way off for a lot of us but it’s a good thought for later!
We have some more neutral pieces that still make a statement, like a fringe pocket skirt and cable knit sweater vest.
See these & more here.

Jewelry from dreams by the sea

August 24, 2012 by Angela

dreams by the sea is based out of San Francisco. I stumbled upon this shop while looking for things for one of my treasuries and immediately loved all the pieces to choose from (over 300 items!) that follow the same whimsical, and yes, dreamy, theme.
These gorgeous barrettes have been on the front page before, so chances are you’ve seen (or hearted) them.
One of the reasons I love clips and hair pins so much is because I get a headache whenever I wear headbands. This is a great way to keep your hair down but still have a beautiful accessory.
There is also a huge selection of jewelry.
These necklaces are bridesmaids gifts. Wouldn’t all these things be so gorgeous for a beach side or outdoor wedding?
You can view fourteen pages of Cristalle’s pieces by visiting her shop, and like her Facebook page here:

Craft supplies in my window

August 21, 2012 by Angela

After last weekend’s painting stint, I have a whole bundle of fresh paintbrushes just waiting for a project.
Ignore the excessive amounts of gelato I’ve had to eat lately to collect these functional little storage jars. One is for the hair clips I use for crochet accessories, and another is for little flowers and ribbons to put in packages. I’m workin’ on another right now (caramel cookie crunch is the best).
The kitchen window’s a little dirty, but it’s the only thing that gets any sun… most of our windows either face away or are blocked by another, bigger house. Requirement for next apartment: nature lighting. Even though the roses are wilted, the jars look pretty!
I’m still getting things worked out with my blog design, how I want it to look, and what I want to feature weekly and monthly. It’s a long time coming. But a day for the random photos I take is a must. What else would I do with them? Is there anything on my blog you’re interested in seeing more of? Thanks!

Art therapy session five, DIY art journal update

August 10, 2012 by Angela

Today I want to share the latest in my art therapy session – another entry from my art journal. I got this sweet stamp that says “sail away” from the 1.00 section of Michaels and haven’t done anything with it. I decided to stamp the entire page first on each side. I like to use markers instead of ink pads because it washes right off the stamp.
Then I glued scraps of blue paper and old dictionary pages on top of the stamp.

I also used my masking tape and stickers, and finally some kraft paper so that I’d have something to write on when I decide to fill it in.

I mentioned a field guide I bought at a secondhand bookstore a few posts ago… well I decided to put it to good use by picking out which pages to use according to their color, giving me a floral backdrop for the pages.
This last page isn’t finished but I used purple flowers from the guide to fill up the background. I also always use leftover scraps to create tabs or extra embellishments on the pages.
Have you done any art projects this week?

DIY craft kits

August 6, 2012 by Angela

I was thinking of who my next featured artist should be when I stumbled upon craft and DIY kits on Etsy and quickly renewed my love for them. I love making paper and sewing kits, especially with secondhand materials like vintage millinery flowers and old book pages. I would love to use up some of my craft collection by designing the perfect gift pack. On my last trip to a used bookstore I got this sweet botanical guide with diagrams of flowers (I’ll post photos later) that would work well in a paper kit. The beauty of these, though, is that they’re already made. Instead of a single artist this week, here are some DIY kits to get you inspired. With these girly and bright kits you can make a flag bunting, gift tags, cross stitch, flower garland, and scrapbook pages.

Bohemian accessories by Rouge Pony

July 27, 2012 by Angela

A few days ago I discovered a beautiful shop with creative photos and feminine and boho style accessories – rougepony. Karin’s shop is based out of London and has everything from headpieces to jewelry to boots.
Here are my favorite pieces/photos.

There is kind of a blend of different styles in this shop, which works really well, and I love that each photo is a little piece of art, too.

Check out Karin’s shop to see over a hundred items for sale, and her blog for more photography and art.
