Cozy & bright conscious fall fashion

November 9, 2015 by Angela

ethical fall fashion

vintage turban headband / vintage utopia sweater / abera crossbody tote / blush silk scarf / gem slice bracelet / patterned sequin clutch

I had a lot of fun with this roundup. My idea was to find conscious products from some of my favorite shops that were cozy and comfortable but had a little something extra. You may have seen that I included a similar silk scarf in my post on the perfect fall day as well. I’ve been so lazy with fashion lately. Fall is usually the time where I step things up because I love, love layering and scarves are my favorite accessories (either handmade by me or with pretty patterns). But besides a couple inspired outfits, I’ve just gone with essentially what I wore on Halloween: a flannel + leggings or denim cutoffs, minus the grunge makeup. It works especially well that my hair has it out against me right now. Just go with me here. Anyway, a crew neck sweater, headband, and a touch of sequins? Glam enough for me this fall.

Where have you been shopping for fall lately?

5 ways to have the perfect fall day

October 22, 2015 by Angela

The more I read (and write) about self care and the importance of doing you when you need to, it seems, the less I take care of myself. I can write about it all day, and I can even put off those anxiety-inducing projects in the name of “needing time” (which only makes it worse, I admit), but taking actual steps to incorporate regular self care (and just plain happiness) into my day is quite a lot harder than it seems. In coming across a lot of cozy fall wonderfulness that I totally want to indulge in this season (and in working on Moorea Seal’s 52 Lists Projects which really opened my eyes to the simple things I don’t spend nearly enough time enjoying), I decided to put together a few ideas for treating yourself this fall. I hope you’ll pick one (or 5) and go for it! [Read more…] about 5 ways to have the perfect fall day

slow fashion & sustainable sourcing with the sweet wild

October 9, 2015 by Angela

One of the first things I did when I got to Washington was go buy a new hook and yarn, because I’m finally in a region where I just might need a scarf. I love crocheting but ever since facing the fact that being a winter accessory maker in Los Angeles isn’t quite the dream, I haven’t picked up a hook in weeks. Another reason for that is that I’m trying to be a more conscious crafter, and I’ve learned that if yarn is cheap – it probably isn’t sustainable. Coming across Julie’s shop, The Sweet Wild, on Instagram (and finding out that she’s in Washington, too), I thought it was the perfect opportunity to talk to a pro about sourcing sustainable materials, and supporting the slow fashion movement. She was kind enough to tell me all about her business and process for today’s post. Check it out… [Read more…] about slow fashion & sustainable sourcing with the sweet wild

endless LA summer + recent style

September 21, 2015 by Angela

end of summer style // iffoundmake.com

I came across HeyGirlMarket back in June and thought their jewelry + accessories were so fun I did a little roundup here on the blog. Their bright colors and beadwork were too perfect for summer. Lucky for me, it’s summer basically all the time, so when I got a chance to try one of their bracelets, it wasn’t hard to wear it out, even in late September. And if it’s actual fall where you live, a bracelet like this would be perfect for a neutrals-only outfit, even if it’s not so sunny.

3 rules for curating conscious home decor

September 11, 2015 by Angela

When I first moved I had one word on my mind: want. I wanted more home decor, a chair for my reading nook, a shelf to display my books—I had practical wants and not so practical wants. Being super picky, I didn’t end up purchasing a lot of those initial things, and over time I realized I wanted to be more intentional about how my home is set up. Being intentional is always a compromise because it means I can’t have everything at once—it’s a slow, steady process of curation. Through this process, I also learned that a lot of my wants fade over time. They’re really just that impulse brought on by an image on Pinterest or an online sale.

Conscious closet: end of summer neutrals

September 4, 2015 by Angela

Labor Day is on Monday and as much as I love that it’s a symbol of a brand new season, my favorite season (I don’t pick favorites often, but when I do, it’s about the weather), I just can’t start posting about fall fashion yet. It’s been a HOT summer in Los Angeles. We finally had a bit of cooler weather this week and all I wanted to do was be outside and enjoy it. Funny how when I lived in Washington it was sunny weather that got me outdoors and now it’s the opposite. Such is life.
