Two big things happened recently that I’m excited to share: 1) I thought of a name for the journaling community I’ll be starting up in the new year. But more on that later! and 2) I decided on a journal. I searched on Etsy, at Barnes and Noble (they have a huge selection of beautiful, thick journals, but none were for me), and even headed to the mall. Finally, I found the perfect journal. I wanted there to be a creative element because like I mentioned before, I like being able to mix media and add a craft element when I write too. This cover was the perfect canvas for some painting…
I went back to one of my first creative projects in school that wasn’t assigned. A friend asked me to decorate her iPod case (there’s a dated statement for ya). It was big and bulky and beautifully white. The only thing I could think to do without messing it up, being a crafty person but not an artist, was to splatter the paint of ten different stunning colors all over it. To be honest, I don’t remember if she loved it or just said she did, but it’s still my favorite paint project ever.
If you plan to follow along with me journaling in 2016, this is an easy DIY project to make your notebook a little more personal.
Obviously, the rules are simple…. a) get a journal, b) gather 5-6 colored paints and different sized brushes, c) splatter the paint onto the journal by sliding the brush over your finger. Use different brush sizes and different amounts of paint for different looks.
I’ll share the email sign up page once I have it. Share a link or tag me on Instagram when you decide on a journal for your 2016 projects!

Oh, I love the splatter paint idea! I’m also creative, but not an artist, so I’m always looking for fun ways to doctor things up without messing them up, I totally get that! 🙂
I’m finishing up the last few pages of my years old school-journal… have a new one picked out to start the new year. Not sure if I’m the mixed media journaling type, but I’m definitely starting to write and draw and scribble down ideas with pens and markers and such and such. 🙂
Merry Christmas Angela!!!!!
