Back when I thought I was moving out of my parents’ house promptly after graduating & getting a job (cue needless whining), I started collecting items from thrift & dollar stores to add to my little collection of housewares and decor. Finally, I got around to painting these simple wooden spoons, after seeing many tutorials floating around Pinterest for months.
I didn’t use any specific tutorial but some of my favorite versions of this wooden cutlery are here, here, and here. All you need for this project are wooden spoons, acrylic paint in your favorite colors, and some type of sealant/overcoat (I have yet to go over mine with a finish; if you have a suggestion let me know!). My color scheme includes mustard yellow, peach, sage, and aqua. I didn’t want to do anything too bright not knowing the decor in my future kitchen. For now, this kitchenware will be put in a very overstuffed cardboard box of the stuff I’ll use one day…hopefully soon!

So simple and cute! I love that I can customize my wooden spoons, and this would add so much color to my kitchen– which is otherwise neutral and black.

I love the idea of dipped wooden spoons and the colors you chose are dreamy. I have always wondered though, how to make them food safe? Other people don’t seem to be bothered with this, and I guess if you just wanted to display them for a colorful decoration, it wouldn’t matter. But my kitchen is small, and I have little room for things that don’t get used. Have you seen anything about sealing them so that they’re ok to actually use for cooking/washing? I know the spoon part isn’t painted, but I would think that the handle could still come in contact with food (if you cook the way I do-ha) or that paint could flake off when washing, etc.

I wonder too. And I’ve noticed that pretty much all of the other tutorials don’t explain if they use an extra coating to keep the paint from chipping & if that’s safe. Luckily these spoons are pretty long so they probably won’t get too immersed in food… I definitely want to look into it before using though.

Those are really cute. If you don’t use them for cooking they would be nice to put on the kitchen wall for some wall art.

Great idea! Actually, all the different sizes in a row would probably look cute.
