Last week my crochet ear warmer headband popped up on the front page of Etsy! If you’re a seller, you know how thrilling it is to see your items in a treasury, and more so if it is picked for the front page! I was happy to be in the company of great sellers. (Please excuse my awful screen shot–in my excitement I forgot what to do!) Marieken from Invisible Crown curated this and thanks to a different seller’s twitter shout out I was able to see it live. I love that the front pages are based on a community effort of discovery; if I had one thing to say to Etsy it would be: never do away with treasuries. My favorite piece here is the iceberg print. What’s yours?
In other news, I saw The Great Gatsby! Have you seen it yet?! Fitzgerald is my favorite author–a love that came long after my required reading of Gatsby in high school and one that was cultivated in college with summers spent sipping iced coffee at the park with Gatsby and Tender is the Night and a collection of short stories in hand and a highlighter at my side for those extra-captivating pieces of prose.
The film didn’t disappoint: how could it with Leonardo cast as Gatsby? Without giving anything away: I was impressed by its alliance to the story, its liberal interpretation of Fitzgerald’s lavish party descriptions, and beautiful visuals. The scene with Gatsby and all the shirts was almost too ideal. Yes, the narration seemed forced at times–but I wouldn’t give it up and risk lacking piece of the original text–and it was quite long–but what could have been cut?

Congratulations on the FP! I was there last week too and I was super excited. And not to be a kiss-ass but your ear warmers are my favorite. 🙂

I had fun making that T! I am happy it was chosen to be on the front page.
I loved the Great Gatsby, I think I might read it again before seeing the movie, which I am very curious about. Especially the visuals! With Baz Luhrmann directing, it must be spectacular!

I loved Gatsby! I saw it with my father, a high school English teacher, and if even HE loved it, then it had to be good! I am aching to see it again. I really loved the incorporation of modern music into it – and somehow it still fit! And the shirt scene was SO wonderful 🙂

That’s awesome 🙂 The teachers we have in high school have such an impact on us and is probably partly why I love reading now so that is really great. The music fit perfectly too, even without having to make the whole film modern.

I must watch The Great Gatsby ASAP! I bet the visuals won’t let me down, and the soundtrack is ravishing! Storms are always welcome, thunderstorms mostly 🙂 xx

I need to see that movie, I loved the book and saw the original movie years ago, but now I need to see the remake, I can only imagine what the fashion and decor looks like! 🙂
That’s so sweet you and your guy are going on your first vacation together, can’t wait to hear where you are going, and see pics when you get back!
xo!

i agree about Gatsby! Fitzgerald is also one of my favorite authors as well, and although i thought the execution was a bit trippy, i’m so glad they stuck to the original text so well! it was definitely a unique, modern take on the book.
