I briefly touched on my desire to blog in a way that sometimes reads like a journal yet also offers something to the reader, in my post on The Blog Market this week. I hope you were inspired by Julie’s story in the feature I published on Monday (if you missed it, it’s here). As always, I jump from one theme, style, topic, thought to another. Today, it’s on all of the simple things that bring me joy, that I too often walk right past, instead of letting wash over me. My hope: that you’ll fill in the blanks with our own favorite things and refer to them whenever necessary (it is always necessary).
Photos from a few of the gloomiest, dreamiest walks I’ve taken as of late.
My favorite things are simple things; clichéd and routine, everyday and ordinary. They are walking under hanging pots of draping fuchsia, and being taken back to my best friend’s grandmother’s backyard. They are conversations that are too easy to take place so rarely. They are summed up by a tree, a wave, a gentle mist over chilled fingers that cling to a camera and a coffee. Concrete paths on suburban streets that get muddy in the rain, soggy from leaves, sticky remnants tracked into the hallway, the kitchen, the back patio in flats. Finding that perhaps the bridge across the locks was never quite as high as your younger self dreamed it to be; a gentle reminder that also, those bridges most frightening to inch across, perhaps, none of them are quite so high, nor quite such a stretch from one end to the other. Maybe you even pass across some of them too hastily, maybe what you need is pause. May we all find the strength to pause when we need to pause. And then? Go again.

I love your photos and eye for photography. Those leaf-covered sidewalks are beautiful!

This is such a sweet post Angela! We were up in Westport, WA over the weekend, and I was wondering if you were still there… so much Rain! on Saturday… it was delightful. 🙂 Sounds like you are enjoying the feeling of fall in your old neck of the woods. ♥
Simple is good. I think that’s why we like each other. 😉
