I came across HeyGirlMarket back in June and thought their jewelry + accessories were so fun I did a little roundup here on the blog. Their bright colors and beadwork were too perfect for summer. Lucky for me, it’s summer basically all the time, so when I got a chance to try one of their bracelets, it wasn’t hard to wear it out, even in late September. And if it’s actual fall where you live, a bracelet like this would be perfect for a neutrals-only outfit, even if it’s not so sunny.
We’ve been in what seems like a constant heat wave in Los Angeles. We’ve been calling it that, but when it lasts for two months with brief dips into the 80s, I’m not so sure it can be called a wave. As much as I want to break out the three lovely pairs of jeans I thrifted last month, I just can’t. Really, I tried. And I was a sweaty, sticky mess. Which I am no longer ashamed about; it is a fact of life. So, the vintage Levi’s and basic tanks stay. On this particular day I greeted the world with my kimono + jewelry, which I’ll admit is rare. You know it’s bad when those two accessories are almost too much.
I purchased the kimono from a LA-based clothing brand I came across on Melrose on a day that included lots of boutique finds and good thrifting luck. When you find denim while out thrifting, it’s always a good day, and that was the afternoon I went home with three pairs of jeans from Crossroads Trading Co., this kimono and a couple other boutique finds, and even the most perfect slip dress at another resale shop (which happened to be new and made in LA). These are the things you hope to find at thrift stores but almost never do. All I needed, then, was my flea market necklace and another piece to complete the look.
The reason I connected with Andreina of HeyGirlMarket in the first place was because I loved her company’s mission: to provide jobs for local female designers in Costa Rica, to provide them with opportunities to work in a safe & loving environment, and to promote education for young girls in the developing world. As part of my own personal mission to make conscious purchases, I rarely buy something for the sake of buying it anymore. But if I’m on the market for new accessories or jewelry, a company like this is one I’m excited to support. It’s a wonderful thing when you can love the product you end up with, and look forward to sharing the experience with people, too.
In other news, I’ve seen a lot more of my friends on Instagram and other bloggers supporting companies like this lately, and questioning their purchases & the brands they follow. This post on Darling + all the comments reminded me that there IS a movement out there, that it’s not just me and the few people I’ve talked to. You don’t have to stop loving pretty accessories or shopping altogether to get involved. Actually, you can keep doin’ what you do.

Hope your Monday is more peaceful than Mondays tend to be! I’m off to Seattle this week so I’m trying to look past my nerves about traveling and focus on how unbelievably content I will be to gain a much needed change of scenery and soak up fall in all its glory. We gotta take care of ourselves, ya know? Speaking of, check out The Blog Market today for a post on getting offline as a blogger.
